Yemeni Journalists Syndicate said that the violations against Press freedom in Yemen during 2017 amounted to about 300 cases. The Syndicate said in its annual report that the violations affected Journalists, Photographers, dozens of Newspapers, Websites and Media institutions, pointing out that violations included kidnapping, arrest, murder, prosecution and incitement.
The annual report drew a picture of the situation of journalists in Yemen, and monitored the cases of violations, arrests and prosecutions against journalists by the Houthi militia.
The report indicated the Houthi involvement in 204 cases, while others committed 54 cases, in addition to 28 cases committed by unknown persons.
The report stated that the violations included 103 cases of kidnapping and arrest, 37 cases of blocking websites, 34 cases of assault, 31 cases of threats and incitement campaigns, and 29 cases of initiate the killing.
The Syndicate said that the Houthi group committed 81 cases of kidnapping and prosecution. It noted that there are 14 journalists are still kidnapped, including 13 journalists kidnapped by the Houthis for more than 2 years. It also said that there is a journalist kidnapped by Al Qaeda in Hadramout.
